VINTAGE + DESIGNER CONSIGNMENT

The Fine Art of Design was founded in 2011 as a handpicked vintage and designer resale boutique. Curators Nicolas Delgado and Yajaira Villagomez appraise items from across the Coachella Valley and beyond.

The store has been featured in American, British and Australian VOGUE, ELLE, GOOP, Los Angeles Times, INSTYLE, as well as the feeds of countless content creators and influencers.

We pride ourselves on creating partnerships with the community through our 50/50 split consignment.

WHAT DO YOU CONSIGN?

Clothing, Shoes, Handbags and Accessories for women and men.

We take designer labels and well designed or desirable pieces from the Victorian Era to present day.

Clothing and accessories from the Victorian era through the 1990s do not need to have designer labels but need to be in good condition.

Labels such as J. Crew, Chicos, Lauren by RL, Zara, Banana Republic are priced low or often go directly to our $20 rack.

CONSIGNMENT PROCESS

STEP ONE:

Text or email us photos of the clothing or accessories you want to bring in first.

STEP TWO:

Once we review the items, we will schedule a weekday appointment at the shop to see in person. At-home appointments are available when needed.

STEP THREE:

Sign a contract and inventory the items. Once we create an inventory, we will email you a “PO Purchase Order” that shows an itemized list with the amount you will potentially receive once it sells. Please check your spam folder, as this often lands there.

STEP FOUR:

Periodically call or email us to check in if your items have sold. We do not notify you if items have sold unless we have arranged to do so.

STEP FIVE:

For payment we can write a check or Zelle you directly.

STEP SIX:

We have a 90-Day minimum and 2-year maximum. If you would like your unsold items returned, it will be your responsibility to pick them up. If you do not choose to do so, after the 2-year maximum has passed, they will be donated.

FAQ

Do you buy instead of consign?

We may make an offer if there are less than five items or if the consignor is very motivated to sell.

Do items get discounted through a specific timeline?

We discount based on our experience in the resale industry and qualities of the item (e.g. if articles are frequently tried on but not purchased, never tried on or flawed). Our price adjustments range 10%-50%, with more significant discounts reflecting damage or issues with the fit. Items are moved to the $20 rack due to condition or lack of desirability and value.

How do you price your items?

We use our expertise and experience to price each item. Our research includes Google Images to find comparable listings online. Sold or completed listings on eBay and The RealReal are the most reliable references. We prefer not to use Poshmark, Vestiare Collective or 1stdibs, as they are often over inflated.

What if I do not want my item discounted?

We are open to setting ceilings and minimums for items such as Chanel, Hermes and other archival designer pieces.

Do my items need to be dry cleaned?

No, we can take care of dry cleaning and repairs. We will take the cost out of the final selling price.

Can I ship my items to you?

Yes. You will ship to Nicolas’ home address, the safest and most reliable address to receive items.

Do you take items seasonally?

We prefer to take summer and spring items in the summer and take fall items in the fall.

Do you take mens clothing?

For men, outerwear, sweaters, short sleeve shirts, t-shirts and accessories sell well. Suits, blazers and long sleeve shirts are harder to sell unless they are Mr. Turk or very cool.

CONTRACT

(a.) Seller agrees to display item(s) in a place appropriate in the establishment.

(b.) Seller will make every attempt to obtain the best possible price for the consigned merchandise and will accept no more than a 75% discount on retail price. 10% - 20% discount is common due to fit, unidentified damage or courtesy or purchases by stylists, designers,

employees, peer consignors, costume designers and for resale dealers. 50%-75% is typical after an extended period of time in the store or reserved for major holiday sales, such as: Black Friday.

(c.) The Seller will email a typed “PO” which will contain a list of the items being sold. The list will have a price that reflects 50% of the selling price in the shop. If the piece needs to be altered, dry cleaned or positioned directly to a sale rack often the amount will be added to the tag price in the shop or taken out of selling price.

(d.) The Seller is entitled to retain 50% of the selling price.

(e.) The Seller shall forward a check for 50% of the selling price only after the Consignee has requested their amount due from sales.

(f.) It is the Consignee’s responsibility to keep themselves informed of sold items. The Consignee can contact the shop for an update on sales by email or phone.

(g.) The Seller does not maintain responsibility for damage, theft or loss.

(h.) Consignee agrees to leave the merchandise with Seller for a minimum of 90 days, after which consigned pieces can be returned to Consignee. The piece may also be used in window display to help promote sale of a piece or online, on Ebay, Instagram or store website.

(i.) After 24 months the Consignee forfeits the contract and the consigned piece becomes property of the seller. After 36 months if sales have not been requested they will be forfeited.

(j.) All dry cleaning and tailoring done to consigned pieces are done at the Seller’s discretion. The Consignee will be charged per dry cleaned or tailored piece or it will be added to the selling price. If the consignee retrieves piece before being sold, they will owe dry cleaning or tailoring fees to seller.

(k.) Items and prices written below are subject to price or description change.
