Mountain Artisans was a brand that made one of a kind amazingly detailed hippie clothing that was sold in very expensive department stores and boutiques in the United States. Here is some interesting history about the label from bethdina seller on ebay:
It was started in 1964 to help put the poor women in the United States to work. In 1968 Sharon Rockefeller helped get the brand launched and got in touch with Oscar de la Renta who knew there was great interest in the "back to earth movement."
Next it was featured in Life Magazine, then the brand was also mentioned in Newsweek and the New Yorker which set it on it's way.
By the early 1970's the label was being sold in Saks Fifth Avenue, Neiman Marcus, and Joseph Magnin. Known for their quilted hostess maxi skirts and dresses the brand unfortunately closed by 1978 due to great popularity of the disco clothing era which made it outdated.
